The Autoroute A 9 is a French motorway that begins with the junction of the A 7 in the direction of Marseille Orange (north-south direction) or in the direction of Lyon (south to north) via a motorway junction near the city of Orange. It ends in the area of the municipality of Perthus in the Pyrénées-Orientales department , where it merges into the AP-7 motorway at the Spanish border . Its total length is 280 km. A speed limit of 10 km / h was still in effect at the border crossing until the summer of 2010; after the control houses have been dismantled, it is 90 km / h today. The motorway is part of the European routes E 15 and E 80 .

Between Orange (in the north) and the A 61 (direction Toulouse and Bordeaux) near Narbonne , the A 9 is called La Languedocienne , south of Narbonne La Catalane .

The A 9 crosses - from north to south - the departments of Vaucluse (Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur), Gard , Hérault , Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales (Occitania) and passes - from south to north - the cities of Perpignan ( Pyrénées-Orientales), Narbonne (Aude), Béziers , Agde , Sète , Montpellier (Hérault), Nîmes (Gard) and Orange .
