The Autoroute 55 , also known as Autoroute du Littoral called, is a toll-free highway in the French department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence . It connects Marseille with Martigues and then via the N 568 with Arles , from where you can get to Nîmes via the A 54 . Today the motorway is 38 km long.

The A55 was built in 1972 as a bypass for Martigues, and three years later it was extended to the A7 . In 1989 the A 55 to Marseille was completed.

The expansion of the N 568 to Arles to a motorway is planned. In the final stage, the motorway will thus have a length of 77 km.
