history

Previous numbering

From 1966 to 1996 the name Autoroute A32 was used for two motorway sections between Metz and Saarbrücken with a total length of 73 km. The first section ran over a length of 58 km from Metz to Freyming-Merlebach . Construction began in 1966 and was completed in 1972. The section was realized as part of a concession by the SANEF company . From 1968 to 1972, a second, 15 km long section was extended to the German border near Saarbrücken, where the section was continued on Federal Motorway 6 . In 1982 the section between Metz and the merging of Autobahn 4 near Metz was rededicated to Autobahn 314 and the remaining stretch of the first section to Merlebach was integrated into the A4. In 1996 the second section was rededicated as the 320 motorway .

Further planning

In the 1980s, planning began for an approximately 110 km long route between Toul and Thionville . This motorway, now known as the A32 Autoroute , was to be realized as part of a concession.
