The Autoroute 66 , also known as L'Ariégeoise called, is a French motorway starting in Vieillevigne and end in Pamiers . It is part of the E 9 and the main route from all of Northern and Central Europe to Andorra . Some of the motorway is subject to tolls , the operator is the ASF (Autoroutes du Sud de la France; in German, motorways of the south of France ), there are no fuel stations and rest stops. Today the motorway has a length of 36 km.

course

At the moment, the A 66 is more of a feeder and connection route between the Upper Ariège Valley and the French motorway network. At Pamiers it turns into the N 20 . With the exception of the Tunnel de Foix (approx. 6 km) and a bridge over the Ariège (approx. 1 km), the N 20 has four lanes from the end of the motorway to Tarascon-sur-Ariège .

future

As part of the Toulouse - Barcelona motorway project , a further (partial) expansion of the N 20 is planned, partly on the current route, partly in parallel from Tarascon-sur-Ariège to the Spanish border near Puigcerdà (approx. 70 km). This expanded part would then be rededicated to the A66 and lead from Pamiers via Foix , Tarascon-sur-Ariège, Ax-les-Thermes , the tunnel de Puymorens and Bourg-Madame to the Spanish border. Due to the difficult conditions (narrow mountain valley), completion is not expected before 2020. When the work is complete, the motorway will have a length of 106 km.
