Status: Planning discarded

The Autoroute A 650 was a planned French motorway that was to be continued from the existing motorway 65 near Pau to Oloron . The approximately 25 km long connection was originally intended as an extension of the A65. The plans reached back to the 1980s. However, the project was abandoned in 2008. It included the construction of a four-kilometer tunnel under the city of Arbus.

Planning history

The first planning began in the 1980s. In 1994 and 1996 two variants of the route were investigated. On January 13, 1998, the second variant was approved by a decision of the Ministry. The public hearing took place from June to September 2004. On October 5, 2006, the Ministry decided to reduce the scope of the construction work due to opposition from the population of the Aspe Valley. The road cross-section was reduced to one lane in the 2 + 1 system . In 2007 the preliminary planning was completed. After an environmental summit in 2008, the project was discarded.
