Emilio Daddario Quincy (* 24. September 1918 in Newton Center , Middlesex County , Massachusetts , †  7. July 2010 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party and long-time deputy in the United States House of Representatives for Connecticut .

biography

After attending school, he first studied at Wesleyan University in Middletown . After a subsequent postgraduate studies of law at the Law School of the University of Connecticut , he was a lawyer working. Shortly thereafter, he joined the US Army as a soldier and served in the Mediterranean region during World War II . For his services he was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Italian Medal of Valor in Silver (Medaglia d'Argento) .

After his return to the United States he was in 1946 at the age of 28 years for the mayor elected by Middletown and held this position until 1948. Subsequently, he was a judge at the City Court (Municipal Court) of Middletown, before he followed during the Korean War back in the military service came and served as a member of the Connecticut National Guard in the Far East Liaison Group in Japan and South Korea . After his return he worked again as a lawyer.

In 1958, Emilio Daddario ran for the Democratic Party for the First Congressional Constituency of Connecticut. After defeating Republican MP Edwin H. May , he was a member of the United States House of Representatives for Connecticut from 1959 to 1971. After being re-elected in 1960, 1962, 1964, 1966 and 1968, he waived re-election in 1970. Instead, he ran in 1970 as a Democratic candidate for governor of Connecticut , but was defeated by Republican Thomas Joseph Meskill . In 1970 Daddario was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

After his subsequent retirement from politics, Daddario worked again as a lawyer. He died of heart failure in Washington on July 7, 2010, at the age of 91.

His grandchildren are the actors Alexandra Daddario (* 1986) and Matthew Daddario (* 1987).
