Joseph Courtney (born April 6, 1953 in Hartford , Connecticut ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . He has been a member of the US House of Representatives since 2007 and currently represents Connecticut's second congressional constituency. Re-elected in 2016, he will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States , which will meet on January 3, 2017 . Its new legislative period runs until January 3, 2019.

career

Courtney graduated from Tufts University and has a law degree from the University of Connecticut . He then practiced as a lawyer for some time. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. Between 1987 and 1994 he served in the Connecticut House of Representatives .
