William W. Welch

William Wickham Welch (born December 10, 1818 in Norfolk , Litchfield County , Connecticut , †  July 30, 1892 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After elementary school, William Welch studied medicine at Yale College until 1839 . After becoming a doctor, he began working in his new job in his native Norfolk. At the same time he began a political career. Between 1848 and 1850 he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives ; from 1851 to 1852 he was a member of the State Senate . Which was a member of the short-lived American Party .

In the congressional election of 1854 Welch was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Connecticut . There he took over on March 4, 1855, succeeding the Democrat Origen S. Seymour . Until March 3, 1857, he had only one term in Congress , which was determined by the events and discussions leading up to the civil war .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Welch worked as a doctor again. He was re-elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1869 and 1881. He died on July 30, 1892 in his native Litchfield and was buried there. His son William became an eminent medicin and made merits in the fight against the Spanish flu .
