John A. McGuire

John Andrew McGuire (born February 28, 1906 in Wallingford , Connecticut , †  May 28, 1976 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1953 he represented the third constituency of the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John McGuire attended the common schools and then to 1928, the Dartmouth College in Hanover ( New Hampshire ). Between 1928 and 1934 he was a bank clerk; from 1934 to 1949 he was a council clerk ( Town Clerk ) in Wallingford. From 1935 he was also active in the insurance industry.

Politically, McGuire was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1946 he was party chairman in Connecticut. Between 1936 and 1956 he took part as a delegate at the regional party congresses in his home country. In the 1948 congressional elections, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third district of Connecticut . There he took over from Ellsworth Foote from the Republican Party on January 3, 1949 , whom he had defeated in the election. After a re-election in 1950, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1953 . In the elections of 1952 he was defeated by Republican Albert W. Cretella .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, John McGuire worked in insurance, real estate, and the travel business. He was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1961 and 1962 . In 1969 he became the deputy chief of police in New Haven County . He was then head of the Wallingford City Housing Department. He held this post until his death on May 28, 1976.
