Miles T. Granger

Miles Tobey Granger (born August 12, 1817 in New Marlborough , Berkshire County , Massachusetts , †  October 21, 1895 in North Canaan , Connecticut ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1889 he represented the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Miles Granger came to Canaan , Connecticut with his parents in 1819 . There he attended the public schools; then he studied until 1842 at Wesleyan University in Middletown . In 1843 he moved to Louisiana for two years . After studying law and being admitted to the Mississippi State in 1845, he began practicing in Canaan. He practiced the legal profession there between 1847 and 1867.

Politically, Granger was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1857 he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives ; between 1866 and 1867 he was a member of the State Senate . In addition to his legal work, Miles Granger was a probate judge from 1849 to 1867. Between 1867 and 1876 he served as a judge on the Superior Court of his state. He then served as a Connecticut Supreme Court Justice from 1876 to 1887.

In 1886, Granger was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Connecticut . There he took over from Edward Woodruff Seymour on March 4, 1887 . Since he refused to run again in 1888, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1889 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Miles Granger became a state referee in 1893 . He held this office in North Canaan until his death in 1895.
