Samuel B. Sherwood

Samuel Burr Sherwood (born November 26, 1767 in Weston , Colony of Connecticut , †  April 27, 1833 in Westport , Connecticut ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1819 he represented the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Sherwood attended Yale College until 1786 . After completing a law degree and being admitted to the bar, he began working in his new profession in Westport. He became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton . Between 1809 and 1815 he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives . In 1816 he became a member of the State Senate .

In the 1816 congressional elections, which were held nationwide in Connecticut, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . There he took over from Lewis B. Sturges on March 4, 1817 . Until March 3, 1819, however, he only spent one legislative period in Congress . He then practiced as a lawyer again until 1831; then he retired. Samuel Sherwood died in April 1833 in Westport and was buried there.
