Carlos French (born August 6, 1835 in Seymour , Connecticut , † April 14, 1903 there ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1889 he represented the second constituency of the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Carlos French attended Seymour public schools and General Russell's Military School in New Haven . Then he worked in the trade. French is considered to be the inventor of the steel and ribbon springs. In the following years he held leading positions at various companies. From 1869 until his death he was President of the Fowler Nail Co .; He was also vice president of HA Matthews Manufacturing Co. , director of Union Horse Shoe Nail Co. in Chicago , director of the Second National Bank of New Haven, and director of a railroad company.

French was a member of the Democratic Party and was part of the Democratic National Committee . He was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1860 and 1868 . In the congressional elections of 1886 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second district of Connecticut . There he took over from Charles Le Moyne Mitchell on March 4, 1887 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1888, French could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1889 .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, French returned to his many private businesses. He died on April 14, 1903 in his native Seymour.
