Colin M. Ingersoll

Colin Macrae Ingersoll (born March 11, 1819 in New Haven , Connecticut , †  September 13, 1903 ) was an American politician . Between 1851 and 1855 he represented the second constituency of the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After a good primary education Colin Ingersoll attended Trinity College in Hartford . He then studied law at Yale College . After his admission to the bar in 1839, he began working in his new profession in New Haven. In 1843 he was employed by the Connecticut Senate administration.

As a member of the Democratic Party , Ingersoll was appointed secretary at the American legation in the Russian capital St. Petersburg by President James K. Polk . There he served between 1847 and 1848. In the congressional elections of 1850, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second district of Connecticut , where he succeeded Walter Booth on March 4, 1851 . After re-election in 1852, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1855 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Ingersoll returned to work as a lawyer. Between 1867 and 1871 he served as the Adjutant General of Connecticut, head of the state's National Guard . Colin Ingersoll died in September 1903 in his native New Haven and was buried there. Colin Ingersoll was the son of Congressman Ralph Isaacs Ingersoll and brother of Governor Charles Roberts Ingersoll .
