John D. McWilliams

John Dacher McWilliams (born July 23, 1891 in Norwich , Connecticut , †  March 30, 1975 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1943 and 1945 he represented the second constituency of the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John McWilliams attended his home public schools and the Norwich Free Academy . He then studied at the Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania until 1910 . As a result, he was active in the construction sector in Norwich. During the First World War he was used as a soldier in the US Army in Europe from 1918 to 1919 . After his return he worked in the construction industry in Norwich again.

McWilliams was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1935 and 1942 he was a city councilor in Norwich. In the 1942 congressional elections, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second district of Connecticut . There he took over from William J. Fitzgerald on January 3, 1943 . But since he was defeated by Democrat Chase G. Woodhouse in the 1944 elections, he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1945 , which was determined by the events of World War II .

Between 1950 and 1960, John McWilliams worked for General Dynamics Corporation in Groton . He was then employed by the City of Norwich, where he died in 1975.
