Patrick B. O'Sullivan

Patrick Brett O'Sullivan (born August 11, 1887 in Derby , Connecticut , †  November 10, 1978 in Orange , Connecticut) was an American politician . From 1923 to 1925 he represented the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Patrick O'Sullivan attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1908 at Yale University and until 1909 at George Washington University in Washington, DC After studying at the law school of Yale University and his admission as a in 1913 As a lawyer , he began practicing his new profession in Derby.

O'Sullivan was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1916 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis , where President Woodrow Wilson was nominated for a second term. In 1917 he was a member and Democratic group leader in the Connecticut Senate . However, he resigned this mandate to serve in the US Navy during World War I.

In the congressional elections of 1922, O'Sullivan was in the fifth constituency elected by Connecticut in the US House of Representatives in Washington. There he took over on March 4, 1923, succeeding Republican James P. Glynn , whom he had defeated in the election. But since he already lost to Glynn in the following elections in 1924, he was only able to complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1925 .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Patrick O'Sullivan returned to practice as a lawyer. He also taught law at Yale. Between 1931 and 1950, O'Sullivan was a judge in the Connecticut Superior Court . After that he was associate judge at the Supreme Court of his state until 1957. In his last months at this court he was Chief Justice until his 70th birthday on August 11, 1957 . He had to give up this office because he had reached the age limit.

O'Sullivan later worked as a State Trial Referee in New Haven . In 1965, he was vice chairman of a commission to review the Connecticut state constitution. Patrick O'Sullivan died on November 10, 1978 in Orange, where he had retired.
