Rosa DeLauro

Rosa DeLauro (born March 2, 1943 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American politician . Since 1991 she has represented the third constituency of the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rosa DeLauro visited the Laurelton Hall High School in West Haven , and later to 1964, the Marymount College in Tarrytown ( New York ). In between, she studied at the London School of Economics in London between 1962 and 1963 . She graduated from Columbia University in New York City in 1966 . After completing her studies, DeLauro embarked on a political career. She became a member of the Democratic Party and served on the staff of the Mayor of New Haven from 1976 to 1977. In 1978, she served as campaign manager for Frank Logue, who was running for New Haven mayor. From 1977 to 1979 she was employed in the New Haven City Administration. She then served as campaign manager for US Senator Chris Dodd in 1979 and 1980 , and served on his staff from 1981 to 1987.

In the 1990 congressional election, DeLauro was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third district of Connecticut . There she took over from Bruce Morrison on January 3, 1991 . After she was confirmed in office in the following elections, she can continue to exercise her mandate in Congress to this day. Re-elected in 2016, she will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States, which meets on January 3, 2017 . Your new legislative period runs until January 3, 2019.

DeLauro is considered very liberal and was a co-founder of the Congressional Progressive Caucus . She is a member of the Grants Committee and three sub-committees. She is also a member of the Committee on Budgets . In 2009 she tabled a draft Food Safety Modernization Act , which is still the subject of heated debates in the United States. She supported Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election . Rosa DeLauro is married to Stanley Greenberg . The couple lives in New Haven.
