Orrin Holt

Orrin Holt (born March 13, 1792 in Willington , Tolland County , Connecticut , †  June 20, 1855 in East Willington , Connecticut) was an American politician . Between 1836 and 1839 he represented the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After a rather poor primary school education, Orrin Holt worked in agriculture. Politically, he was a member of President Andrew Jackson's Democratic Party . Between 1830 and 1832 he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives ; from 1835 and 1836 he sat in the State Senate .

After the resignation of Congressman Andrew T. Judson , who had been appointed federal judge, on July 4, 1836 , Holt was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . After a confirmation in the regular congressional elections of 1836, he was able to represent Connecticut's sixth constituency in Congress between December 5, 1836 and March 3, 1839 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Holt returned to farming. He also made a career in the Connecticut National Guard . There he made it to the general inspector. Orrin Holt died in East Willington in June 1855.
