Ebenezer Jackson

Ebenezer Jackson Jr. (born January 31, 1796 in Savannah , Georgia , †  August 17, 1874 in Middletown , Connecticut ) was an American politician . Between 1834 and 1835 he represented the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ebenezer Jackson attended St. Mary's College near Baltimore ( Maryland ) until 1814 . After a subsequent law degree at Litchfield Law School and his admission to the bar, he began to practice in Philadelphia in his new profession from 1821 . In 1826 he moved to Middletown, Connecticut. There he also began a political career. He joined the movement around President John Quincy Adams and became a member of the National Republican Party , which was in opposition to Andrew Jackson and his Democratic Party , founded in 1828 . Jackson served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1829 to 1832 .

After the resignation of Congressman Samuel Foot in 1834, Jackson was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . There he ended the legislative period that had begun between December 1, 1834 and March 3, 1835. In the regular congressional elections of 1834 he was defeated by the Democrat Lancelot Phelps .

In 1849, Jackson was re-elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives. Otherwise he was no longer politically active. He died in Middletown on August 17, 1874.
