Ezra Clark Jr. (born September 12, 1813 in Brattleboro , Vermont , †  September 26, 1896 in Hartford , Connecticut ) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1859 he represented the first constituency of the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1819, Ezra Clark came to Hartford, Connecticut with his parents. There he attended public schools. Then he became a hardware dealer . He was also a member of Hartford City Council. Ezra Clark became president of the National Screw Co. in Hartford, the later with the American Screw Co. in Providence merged. Clark also served as a judge at the Hartford City Court, which suggests a previous law degree. Politically, he became a member of the relatively short-lived American Party .

In 1854 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the First District of Connecticut . There he succeeded the Democrat James T. Pratt on March 4, 1855 . Two years later, Clark joined the Republican Party and was re-elected to Congress in 1856 as its candidate . So he was able to complete two consecutive terms in Congress by March 3, 1859. From 1855 to 1857 he was chairman of the craftsmen's committee ( Committee on Manufactures ). In 1860 he was not re-elected.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Clark turned to his private affairs. From 1882 to 1895 he was chairman of the Hartford City Water Committee. For many years he also served as President of the Young Men's Institute there . Ezra Clark died in Hartford on September 26, 1896.
