Samuel D. Hubbard

Samuel Dickinson Hubbard (born August 10, 1799 in Middletown , Connecticut , †  October 8, 1855 ) was an American politician of the Whig Party . He was a member of the cabinet of US President Millard Fillmore as Minister of Post .

Hubbard studied classical antiquity and graduated from Yale College in 1819 . This was followed by a law degree before he worked as a lawyer in his hometown of Middletown from 1823 to 1837. He later became an employee in a factory .

Hubbard became increasingly interested in politics. In 1844 he was finally elected to the United States House of Representatives for the Whigs as representative of the 2nd  electoral district of Connecticut . He was a member of Congress in its 29th and 30th session from March 4, 1845 to March 3, 1849.

In 1852, President Fillmore, also a Whig Party member, appointed him Postmaster General to his cabinet . He succeeded the resigned Nathan K. Hall . Hubbard took office on August 31, 1852 and served until March 7, 1853. With the end of Millard Fillmore's tenure, he too left the government.
