Jonathan O. Moseley

Jonathan Ogden Moseley (born April 9, 1762 in East Haddam , Colony of Connecticut , †  September 9, 1838 in Saginaw , Michigan ) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1821 he represented the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jonathan Moseley attended the public schools of his home country and then Yale College until 1780 . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in East Haddam in his new profession. Politically, he became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton . Between 1794 and 1804 he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives . From 1794 to 1817 he was also a justice of the peace in East Haddam. He also served as a district attorney in Middlesex County between 1801 and 1805 . Moseley was also a member of his home state's militia, where he made it to the rank of colonel in 1802.

In the 1804 congressional elections, which were held nationwide in Connecticut, Moseley was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . After seven re-elections, he was able to complete eight consecutive terms in Congress between March 4, 1805 and March 3, 1821 . During this time, the British-American War of 1812 and the annexation of Florida to the United States in 1819 took place.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Moseley moved to Saginaw, Michigan, where he worked as a lawyer until his death in September 1838.
