Charles Le Moyne Mitchell (born August 6, 1844 in New Haven , Connecticut , †  March 1, 1890 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the second constituency of the state of Connecticut in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Mitchell attended the Cheshire Academy until 1863 . He then traveled to Europe , Asia and Africa . Upon his return to New Haven, he worked in the manufacture of silverware and became a politician for the Democratic Party . In 1877 he was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives.

In the congressional election of 1882, Mitchell was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second district of Connecticut . There he took over from James Phelps on March 4, 1883 . After a re-election in 1884, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1887 . Between 1885 and 1887 he was chairman of the patent committee. In 1886 Mitchell declined to run again.

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Mitchell resumed his previous work. Even after moving to New York, he continued to do business in Connecticut. Charles Mitchell died on March 1, 1890 and was buried in his native New Haven.
