David Plant

David Plant (born March 29, 1783 in Stratford , Connecticut , † October 18, 1851 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician ( National Republican Party ).

Career

David Plant attended Episcopal Academy in Cheshire and graduated from Yale College in 1804 . He studied law at Litchfield Law School , was admitted to the bar in 1804, and then began practicing in Stratford. He later served as a judge in the Fairfield County Probate Court . Plant also pursued a political career. He was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives between 1817 and 1820 , where he also served as a speaker . He then sat in the Connecticut Senate in 1821 and 1822 . He was then elected lieutenant governor of Connecticut and held this office between 1823 and 1827. Plant was elected to the 20th US Congress , where he served from March 4, 1827 to March 3, 1829. In 1828 he decided against running for Congress again and resumed his practice as a lawyer at the end of his term in office.

He died in Stratford in 1851 and was subsequently buried on the Congregational Burying Ground .
