Career

Nothing is known about Robert Parsons' youth and schooling. He lived in the town of his birth, Farmington, where he worked as a car dealer. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1933 and 1940 he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives ; from 1943 to 1948 he was a member of the State Senate , of which he was acting President ( President Pro Tempore ). According to the state constitution, the official president of the state senate is the lieutenant governor.

After the death of Governor James L. McConaughy on March 7, 1948, his lieutenant governor James C. Shannon was appointed to the highest office in Connecticut. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, Parsons was no longer politically active. He died on July 18, 1966. His Chevrolet dealership in Farmington still exists today.
