Fred J. Doocy

Frederick J. "Fred" Doocy (born May 5, 1913 in Hartford, Connecticut , † December 7, 2017 in Manchester, Connecticut ) was an American politician . He was lieutenant governor of the state of Connecticut in 1966 and 1967 .

Career

Nothing is known about Fred Doocy's youth and schooling. He lived in South Windsor . He later worked in the banking industry for the Hartford National Bank & Trust Company . During the Second World War he served in the American armed forces. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In his hometown of South Windsor, he held several local offices; among other things, he was city treasurer there three times. Since 1959 he was a member of the Connecticut Senate , whose incumbent President ( President Pro Tempore ) he was since 1963.

After Lieutenant Governor Samuel J. Tedesco resigned in 1966, Doocy was promoted to the post of Vice Governor as acting Senate President. He held this office until January 1967, the regular end of the term of office. He had decided against re-election. As Lieutenant Governor, he was Deputy Governor John N. Dempsey . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Fred Doocy was a member of various state commissions. However, he has not appeared politically since the 1980s. He was 104 years old.
