Charles W. Jewett

Charles Wood Jewett (born March 14, 1913 in Detroit , Michigan , †  November 3, 2000 in Lyme , Connecticut ) was an American politician . Between 1955 and 1959 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Connecticut.

Career

Charles Jewett lived in Lyme and became a member of the Republican Party . He was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1940 and 1946 . In 1954 he was elected lieutenant governor of Connecticut at the side of Abraham A. Ribicoff . He held this office between 1955 and 1959. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In August 1956, he took part as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in San Francisco , on which President Dwight D. Eisenhower was nominated for re-election.

After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, Charles Jewett was no longer politically active. He died on November 3, 2000.
