Thaddeus Betts

Thaddeus Betts (born February 4, 1789 in Norwalk , Connecticut , † April 7, 1840 in Washington DC ) was an American politician of the Whig Party .

After graduating from high school, Betts graduated from Yale College in 1807 . He then studied law , was admitted to the bar in 1810 and then began working as a lawyer in his hometown of Norwalk.

Thaddeus Betts first became politically active in 1815 when he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives for a year . However, it was 15 years before he returned to the Chamber: in 1830 he spent another term in the House before becoming a member of the State Senate the following year .

In 1832 he was elected lieutenant governor of the state of Connecticut; after a one-year break, Betts was re-elected to this office in 1834. Finally, he won the election to the US Senator in 1838 and took office on March 4, 1839. But Thaddeus Betts died in Washington the following year. He was buried in his hometown of Norwalk.
