George G. Sumner

George G. Sumner (born January 14, 1841 in Hebron , Connecticut , †  September 20, 1906 in Hartford , Connecticut) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1885 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Connecticut.

Career

George Sumner grew up in Bolton , Tolland County , and then moved to Hartford. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1864, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1867 he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives . Between 1878 and 1880 he was Mayor of Hartford. In the 1878 election he proposed the later governor and US Senator Morgan Bulkeley .

In 1882, Sumner was elected lieutenant governor of Connecticut alongside Thomas M. Waller . He held this office between 1883 and 1885. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In the years 1887 and 1888 Sumner was State Senator. He died on September 20, 1906 in a Hartford hospital. He had two children with his wife Julia Ella Gallup.
