Francis Wayland (politician)

Francis Wayland III (born August 23, 1826 in Boston , Massachusetts , †  January 9, 1904 in New Haven , Connecticut ) was an American politician . In the years 1869 and 1870 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut.

Career

Francis Wayland lived in New Haven. In 1846 he graduated from Brown University in Providence ( Rhode Island ), whose president at that time was his father Francis Wayland . He then studied law at Harvard University . In 1864 he became a probate judge in his home country. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

In 1868, Wayland was elected lieutenant governor of Connecticut alongside Marshall Jewell . He held this office between 1869 and 1870. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1872 he became a professor of law at Yale University . Between 1873 and 1903 he was dean of the local law school. He died on January 9, 1904 in his hometown of New Haven.
