Samuel J. Tedesco

Samuel J. Tedesco (born February 21, 1915 in Bridgeport , Connecticut , † August 5, 2003 in Berkeley , California ) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1966 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Connecticut.

Career

Nothing is known about Samuel Tedesco's youth and schooling. After studying law at Boston University and being admitted to the bar, he began working in the profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1940 and 1942 he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives . From 1943 to 1946 he served in the United States Army during World War II . From 1949 to 1953 Tedesco was a member of the State Senate . In the early 1950s he became a city judge in Bridgeport. In 1955 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of mayor there. Two years later he won the next mayoral election in his hometown. He was then Mayor of Bridgeport between 1957 and 1965. That included part of his time as lieutenant governor.

In 1962, Tedesco was elected lieutenant governor of Connecticut alongside John N. Dempsey . He held this office between 1963 and 1966. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. When he was appointed Superior Court Justice in 1966 , he resigned from the post of lieutenant governor. Fred J. Doocy then took over the remaining term of office until January 1967 . In the years that followed, Samuel Tedesco remained a judge. In 1976 he was temporarily excluded from the bar and sentenced to renew an alcohol sales license for certifying falsified documents. He successfully appealed against the judgment and was thus able to remain in the bar. He also kept his judge's post; however, until he retired in 1980, he did not hear any more cases. Tedesco had lived in California since 1989. He died on August 5, 2003 in Berkeley after a long illness. He found his final resting place in Saint Michaels Cemetery in Stratford .
