Richard Blumenthal
Richard Blumenthal (born February 13, 1946 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American lawyer and politician of the Democratic Party . Since January 2011, he sits for the state of Connecticut in the US Senate .
Life
Blumenthal's parents were Jane Rosenstock and Martin A. Blumenthal, who immigrated from Germany as Jewish immigrants. He studied for his schooling at Harvard College , at Trinity College in Cambridge and at the Yale Law School Law . After graduating, Blumenthal served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for six years . From 1977 to 1981 he was the successor to Peter Collins Dorsey federal prosecutor for the district of Connecticut. He then worked as an attorney at Cummings & Lockwood .
From 1984 to 1987, Blumenthal was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives . From 1987 to 1991 he was the successor to Anthony D. Truglia Senator in the Connecticut Senate , he was succeeded by George Jepsen . From 1991 to 2010, Blumenthal was the Connecticut State Attorney General .
On November 2, 2010, Blumenthal was elected as the successor to his fellow party member, incumbent incumbent Chris Dodd , who did not run again, as Senator in the United States , where he prevailed against Republican Linda McMahon . Since he was confirmed in office in 2016, he will also represent his state in the US Senate for the next six years. His new term runs until January 3, 2023.
In July 2013, following the NSA revelations by Edward Snowden , Blumenthal said: "The revelations about the size, extent and breadth of these surveillance measures, the metadata and deep action, the surveillance of social media websites, were indeed revelations to me."
Blumenthal lives with his family in Stamford , Connecticut.
