Stan Greenberg

Stanley Bernard "Stan" Greenberg (born May 10, 1945 ) is an American election campaign manager. His specialty is the strategic planning of politics.

life and work

Greenberg is a member of the Democratic Party . He advises parties on their public relations and internal communication. He co-designed the campaigns of Ehud Barak , Bill Clinton , John Kerry and Al Gore, among others . In Europe he was a consultant to Tony Blair and Gerhard Schröder .

In 1999 he founded the PR company GCS Issue Management Ltd. together with James Carville , Bob Shrums (GCS) and Tal Silberstein . in Israel . From 2001 this company advised the SPÖ . The establishment of a GCS office in Vienna with Silberstein as head was not pursued further due to the defeat of the SPÖ in the National Council election in 2002 .

Greenberg studied political science at Miami University . A Ph.D. he graduated from Harvard University . He was a lecturer at Yale University from 1975 to 1985 . In particular, the government policy of Ronald Reagan (US President 1981 to 1989) was a focus of his academic work.

Greenberg became known through the conception of the 1992 election campaign for Bill Clinton (see presidential election November 1992 ). The Democratic Party's campaign headquarters became known as the "war room" (also through the December 1993 documentary " The War Room "). In 1996, Clinton was re-elected.

He was publicly criticized for his media work for the oil company BP . Greenberg's attempts to portray BP as environmentally friendly after the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill have been heavily criticized. Thus, Rahm Emanuel , White House Chief of Staff under President Barack Obama , the media policy of BP based on Greenberg's surname as " greenwashing " (within the meaning of whitewashing ), respectively.

As part of his work for the SPÖ, Greenberg was the object of ridicule in attacks by Jörg Haider :

“The Häupl has an election strategist, his name is Greenberg ... (loud laughter in the hall) ... he had him flown in from the east coast ! Dear friends, you have the choice between Spin-Doctor Greenberg from the east coast or the Wienerherz ... (thunderous applause) ... we don't need any calls from the east coast. Now is enough (loud applause) "

Greenberg is married to Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (* 1943) from Connecticut and lives in New Haven .
