Chaled al-Khamissi (born September 27, 1962 in Cairo ; also Chalid al-Khamissi or Khaled el-Khamissi ) is an Egyptian writer and journalist .

Life

Al-Chamissi studied political science at the University of Cairo and completed his studies at the Sorbonne in Paris with a Master of Arts in foreign policy. He lives and works in Cairo as a journalist for Egyptian newspapers, including for Al Ahram , and has made a name for himself as a critical observer of social conditions. As a filmmaker, director and screenwriter, he also made numerous feature films and documentaries .

Al-Chamissi's first literary work Taxi became a bestseller in his home country and sold over 35,000 times. There are translations into English, French, Greek, Italian and Spanish as well as into German and Polish. Since the beginning of the revolution in Egypt in 2011 , he has reported regularly in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung on developments in his home country.
