Weston is a city in Fairfield County in the US state of Connecticut , United States , with 10,500 inhabitants (as of 2004). The urban area has a size of 53.6 km². The city is located near Westport and thus on the northeastern edge of the metropolitan area of New York City - the distance to Manhattan is 80 km, but there is no public transport in the small town, so that train or bus commuters have to drive from Westport.
Weston has a small shopping center, but larger shopping opportunities are only available outside. Weston is known for its extensive green areas, the largest of which is the Bisceglie-Scribner-Park (approx. 2,000 hectares). A quarter of the urban area is reserved for open spaces.
This typical New England community has a minority share (blacks, Hispanics, Asians) of just 5%. The houses are evidence of high incomes (US $ 150,000 per year) and the school system is accordingly well equipped. 2% of the population are considered poor (Connecticut: 8%). City administration is currently in the hands of Tom Landry (Town Administrator) who manages a city budget of approximately $ 50,000,000. Of the employees, 52% work in the general service sector, 17% in administration, 11% in trade and 7% in finance. Weston's crime rate is around a third of Connecticut's rate.
