Litchfield County is a county in the US state of Connecticut . The county's largest city is Torrington . The traditional administrative center is Litchfield , but in Connecticut all local administrative functions have been transferred to the communities.

According to the 2000 census , the county had a population of 182,193. There were 71,551 households and 49,584 families. The population density was 76 inhabitants per square kilometer.
