Hartford County is a county in the north of the US state Connecticut . The traditional county seat is Hartford , but in Connecticut all local administrative functions have been transferred to the parishes.

According to the 2000 census , the county had a population of 857,183. There were 335,098 households and 222,505 families. The population density was 450 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 76.90 percent white, 11.66 percent African American, 0.23 percent Native American, 2.42 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 6.43 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.55 percent of the total population.

Of the 335,098 households, 31.3 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 49.2 percent were married couples living together, 13.5 percent were single mothers. 33.6 percent were not families. 27.9 percent were single households and 10.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.05.

The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 89.0 males.
