Surname
The place is probably documented as Altdorf in 830, certainly 1315 . The name may indicate a settlement that already existed at the time of the Alemannic immigration, or a founder named Alto .
history
In February 1944 the village was attacked by a fighter plane. Contrary to the initial assumptions, according to which American airmen accidentally attacked Swiss territory again, it would have turned out, according to Hans Ruh , who grew up there , that it was a German aircraft.
coat of arms
- In red on green ground on brown sticks, natural vine with two blue, hanging grapes, white six-pointed star in the upper right corner.
In 1806 the Altdorf community had its first seal stamped. The vine was modeled on the production court "under the mountain Reyet", which included Altdorf as well as Bibern, Hofen and Opfertshofen. Since the coat of arms of Opfertshofen also represented the vine, Altdorf, as the owner of the younger coat of arms, had to introduce something to differentiate during the redesign. For this purpose, a six-pointed star was introduced in the left ( heraldic : right) upper corner.
