Lohn is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland .
geography
Lohn is located on the high plateau of the Reiat , the sun terrace of the canton of Schaffhausen. The total area of the municipality is 486.6 hectares, of which 167.9 hectares are forest and 30.4 hectares are building area. The village center (church) is at 640 m above sea level. M., the lowest point is in the "Langloch-Feldbrunn" at 480 m above sea level. M., the highest in the "Dicki" at 674 m above sea level. M.
history
The first written record of the village wage took place on 10 May 1238. Ritter Heinrich von Liebenberg, a kyburgischer ministerial or service man who sat at that time with the consent of his master, Count Hartmann of the elders of Kyburg, his wife Bertha heiress of all his goods, and although by way of so-called substitution. Among the transferred goods there is also an own good in wages. The original of this first mention is kept in the State Archives of the Canton of Zurich . In 1259, the Count of Kyburg gave the area of Lohn to the Paradies monastery . On April 14, 1529, the Vogtei Lohn was sold to the city of Schaffhausen for 145 guilders . In the village there is also the mother church of all the surrounding villages of the Reiat. As early as 1743 it is known that in the area of Lohn, good quality white clay was sold as far as Strasbourg . The first brickworks existed as early as the 14th century. Today there are still two brick factories in the village.

The oldest depiction of a coat of arms of the municipality of Lohn can be found in 1569. It depicts an upright ploughshare in yellow. At the end of the 16th century there is a depiction with a shield split in red and gold, backed up by a six-pointed star in mixed up colors. Another depiction from this time is an upright, blue grape on a white background. At the time of the Helvetic , the seal represented typical symbols from that time, the freedom hat over a plumb line. In the following mediation , this seal was turned away and created a new seal depicting an upright ploughshare. In order to prevent differentiation with other, similar coats of arms, it was suggested in 1949 that the ploughshare should be combined with a brick model as a symbol of the industry that had been flourishing for centuries. However, this was ultimately rejected.

The community of Lohn has a total of 645 inhabitants (as of March 2005), 454 of whom are entitled to vote. The population consists of 160 Lohnem citizens, 450 residents and 35 foreigners.
In terms of denomination, the population is divided as follows: 439 Protestant Reformed, 102 Catholic, 7 other and 97 non-denominational.

The municipality of Lohn is 8 km from the center of the canton capital Schaffhausen and 3 km from the former district capital Thayngen . The next slip road on the A4 towards Zurich , Airport or Stuttgart is 5.4 km away.

school
Lohn has a contract with the neighboring community of Büttenhardt for cooperation in the field of primary schools. In Lohn there are two mixed classes with fourth, fifth and sixth graders as well as two kindergarten classes (pupils from the communities of Lohn and Büttenhardt). In Büttenhardt, the first graders and the second and third graders from both communities are each taught in one class (as of the 2015/2016 school year). The secondary school students go to Herblingen (Schaffhausen).

Church of Lohn : This historical landmark of the Reiat, which was consecrated to Saint Martin at the time , was first mentioned relatively late, on February 1, 1259, but both its location and, in particular, the Franconian patron saint - the Another Martinskirche in the canton, Merishausen , is attested for example as early as 846 - with the greatest probability that it was also much earlier, perhaps as early as the 9th or 10th century.
