Herblingen is a former political municipality and a former farming village in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland . On January 1, 1964, Herblingen was incorporated into the city of Schaffhausen as a quarter . Herblingen is located northeast of the old town of Schaffhausen at the foot of the Reiat .

population

In 1808 274 people lived in the village. In the 19th century, many Herblingers emigrated to Brazil . The village had 351 residents in 1860. In 1900 the hamlet of Gennersbrunn changed its affiliation from Thayngen to Herblingen. Already in 1930 the merger of goods in the farming village was carried out. In 1941 there were already more than 1000 residents in Herblingen. The proximity to new jobs attracted more and more newcomers.

history

At Herblingen one found stations of the people of the Stone Age with the picture of Switzerland . The Kesslerloch near Thayngen is also famous .

The Alemannic settlement Herwilingen was first mentioned in a document in 1258. The family of the Lords of Herblingen originally had jurisdiction over the lower courts. She had Herblingen Castle built in the 13th century . At the beginning of the 14th century, these rights passed to the Habsburgs , later to the Truchsessen von Diessenhofen and the Schaffhausen noble family Brümsi . After 1469 the village belonged to various citizens from Schaffhausen, u. a. Adam Cron. Around 1530 the village had around 20 residential buildings. In 1534 the city of Schaffhausen bought the lower jurisdiction including the castle. It was not until 1723 that high jurisdiction came from the Landgraviate of Nellenburg (Austria) to Schaffhausen.

Herblingen was subordinate to the upper bailiff Reiat of the Schaffhausen landscape until 1798. The Herblingers went to church after wages . In 1751 the village church was built by the owner of Herblinger Castle. It replaced the medieval St. Peter's Chapel. The floor plan is rectangular with a choir closed on three sides. The font dates from 1596.

Incorporation to Schaffhausen

In 1949 the Cantonal Council rejected the village's first incorporation initiative. Another attempt in 1963 found an approving majority in the canton and the village. Herblingen became part of Schaffhausen on January 1, 1964. It had 1987 residents. Herblingen experienced rapid development through the consolidation of the Herblinger Valley into an industrial zone in the 1960s. In 1979, two shopping centers were built on the green field, which were expanded into Herblinger Markt in 2001 . In 2009 the quarter had 5,051 inhabitants.

Many different coats of arms can be found for Herblingen in the course of history. In 1569 there is a plow with attached vine knife in yellow. A coat of arms with a large, yellow grape on a red background comes from the same period. These two symbols commemorate the occupations of the population at that time. 1597 a coat of arms with a red lion in silver can be proven. There is no definite interpretation for this symbol. It may go back to the former owner of the castle, Hans Löw. In 1766 there is a seal with a vine knife pointing to the left (heraldic: right). This symbol can also be found on the church bell from 1817. From 1800 the community had a new coat of arms; a grape motif exaggerated by a vine knife.

During the adjustment in 1949, the municipal assembly was proposed to use the oldest coat of arms, as this figure was unique and heraldically original. The assembly decided against it and chose the vine knife, which is documented from the 18th century.
