Location of the municipality | |
Dörflingen is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland . The community borders on German territory on two opposite sides . It forms a bar about 700–2000 meters wide, which separates Büsingen on the Upper Rhine from the rest of the German state and makes it an exclave . The center of Dörflingen is in inventory of estimable townscapes of Switzerland listed (ISOS) and thus stands as an ensemble under monument protection .
geography
Dörflingen is an old farming village in which agriculture and viticulture used to predominate. In 1875 vineyards took up 25 hectares of the community area. In the last decades the place has developed more and more into a residential community with numerous commuters . In 2005 there were still 24 active farms on site.
history
The place was already in 1264 as Dorfelingen mentioned in documents as he to the Habsburgs fell. In 1535, the Reformation was introduced as part of the Dörflinger iconoclasm . In 1651 the community was raised to an independent parish. The church still standing today was built in 1689.
Together with the town of Stein am Rhein and the communities of Ramsen and Hemishofen , Dörflingen was assigned to the canton of Schaffhausen against the will of the population in 1798 in the Helvetic Republic . Until then they belonged to Zurich . Dörflingen was exchanged for Ellikon am Rhein .
In 2006 a church renovation took place. The was Metzler - organ from 1941 dismantled, a new instrument of Stans Erni was inaugurated of 2007.
coat of arms
- In blue and white, upright ploughshare, surmounted by a freely floating isosceles white cross.
The oldest evidence of the Dörflinger coat of arms can be found on a pane tear in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and dates from the second half of the 16th century. It already shows a ploughshare with an isosceles cross hanging over it. The knowledge about this coat of arms was lost over time. It is all the more astonishing that the coat of arms is again on the seal of the municipality at the beginning of the 19th century . The only difference is that the lower beam of the cross was extended and now stuck on the ploughshare.
The ploughshare as a symbol indicates the arable farming. The white cross is an example of the widespread custom in the old Swiss Confederation of wearing a white cross as an identification mark on armor or clothing. The tincture of Zurich (lead-white) was chosen as the tincture in 1951.
