Location of the municipality | |
Stetten is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland .
geography
Stetten is located on a hill a few kilometers northeast of the city of Schaffhausen at about 570 m above sea level.
Due to the elevated location and the heavily calcareous soil, there are hardly any surface water in Stetten. The lower ponds at Herblingen Castle are an exception .
history
Stetten was first mentioned in a document in 1080. The monasteries of St. Agnes in Schaffhausen and St. Katharinental in Diessenhofen owned the goods in Stetten. In 1529 and 1534 the monasteries separated from the property and Stetten came to Schaffhausen. In 1820/1821 the village acquired its own seal . The lying crescent moon is still the municipal coat of arms. Stetten was hit hardest in a major thunderstorm in September 1836. Several houses were badly damaged and many fields were devastated.
During the First World War , Georg Fischer AG built the Pantli model estate for its workers . 26 apartments for 120 workers were built at the southern end of the municipality. In 1975 everything was torn down again.
coat of arms
- In red a lying yellow crescent moon.
In the Stetten files in 1749 a "sign" was mentioned. It cannot be found out whether this is already the coat of arms or just the initials. A community seal appeared for the first time in 1820. It represents a lying crescent moon. How this coat of arms came about cannot be determined with certainty. Perhaps the coat of arms of a bailiff of Schaffhausen served as a template , who sealed files as bailiffs or church clerks. Of these, at least three sexes had a crescent moon in their coat of arms. This coat of arms was retained when it was cleaned up in 1951.
population
For several years now, Stetten has been characterized by strong population growth. The reasons for this growth are low tax rates, the convenient location near the city of Schaffhausen and the recently developed and attractively located new building area Schalmenacker. Various constructions of single-family houses were tackled in this area in 2006/2007.
