Christian Amsler

Christian Amsler (born November 21, 1963 ; resident in Schaffhausen and Schinznach-Dorf ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Before his election to the Schaffhausen government, Christian Amsler was Vice-Rector of the Continuing Education and Services Sector of the Schaffhausen University of Education and, as such, also head of teacher training, professional induction and the Didactic Center. In 2020, the Schaffhausen population voted out of him and replaced him with Patrick Strasser (SP) from Oberhallau.

From 1987 to 1993 he was President of the Liberal Association Stetten (today Liberales Forum Stetten). From 2000 to 2008 he was Stetten as mayor before. At the same time, he was a member of the Cantonal Council from 2003 to 2010 , where he was parliamentary group president of the FDP-CVP-JF parliamentary group.

From 1 April 2010 to 31 December 2020 was Amsler elected Councilor of the Canton of Schaffhausen and stood in front of the Education Department. In 2014 he was President of the Government, and in 2018 he headed the government for the second time. He also chaired the International Lake Constance Conference IBK in 2018 and the HRK High Rhine Commission in 2017/2018. In 2018 he ran for the Federal Council vacancy within the FDP after the resignation of Federal Councilor Johann Schneider-Ammann . Since 2010 he has headed the education department with the areas of education, sport, culture, family and youth, church affairs and external relations.

In the military he held the rank of colonel, presided over the cantonal officers 'society of Schaffhausen KOG and was also on the central board of the Swiss officers' society SOG. From 2013 to 2016 he chaired the German-speaking Swiss Conference of Educational Directors (D-EDK) and the Intercantonal Teaching Aids Center (ilz). He also chaired the Curriculum 21 Steering Committee .

Amsler is married to a teacher, has three grown children and lives in Stetten.
