The Pantli was a workers' settlement on the outskirts of Stetten in the canton of Schaffhausen , which was commissioned by today's Georg Fischer AG . It was officially christened “ Schweizerbild ” after a neighboring prehistoric site .

The estate was built from October 1916 to March 1918 according to the plans of the architect Arnold Meyer due to the housing shortage near the “Birch” plant. The 26 apartments in row houses also included small farm buildings and a corresponding area of garden, meadow and pasture land so that the residents could be partially self-sufficient. From today's perspective, the Pantli is considered to be the first modern social housing in the Schaffhausen region.

The construction costs for the 16,400 cubic meters of settlement space at that time amounted to CHF 591,500.00, which results in CHF 36.00 construction costs per cubic meter.

In the 1960s, the old-fashioned apartments became less attractive. The settlement gradually became depopulated; In 1975 4 of the 26 apartments were still inhabited. On May 16, 1975, the entire settlement was demolished as a preventive measure against squatting. Only the transformer house remained standing; it is empty today.

Planned reuse of the Pantli estate

At the beginning of the 1970s there were plans to build modern high-rise buildings with 550 apartments in place of the Pantli, but the project was not implemented due to the 1973 oil crisis . At the end of the 1990s, the former settlement area was to be used to build a rehabilitation clinic for accident patients. For financial reasons, however, the construction of a clinic was never started.

The Pantli today

Today only the so-called transformer house is left of the entire development . This is for several years from the scouts used as Pfadihütte Schaffhausen (Department Marsupilami). Inside, however, there are still remnants from the golden age of this development, such as the water pipes and the fire department store.
