Gächlingen is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland .

geography

Gächlingen is located on the northern edge of the Swiss Klettgau , ( called Chläggi there) at the foot of the Hallauer Berg. To the north of Gächlingen, the ridge of the Hallauer Berg connects over the Siblingerhöhe with the Lange Randen, a southern branch of the Randen .

The northern edge is occupied by the towns of Oberhallau , Hallau and Trasadingen in a direct line to the German border .

history

The oldest remains of settled farmers in Switzerland were found in Gächlingen. The finds are dated to the end of the 6th millennium BC. Dated. At that time, a small group of Neolithic farmers and cattle breeders migrated south from the upper reaches of the Danube . This group built a small hamlet of residential and commercial buildings on the western edge of today's Gächlingen.

In the region around Gächlingen the settlers found good foundations for survival in a day's journey from the buildings: flint for the production of sharp tools and weapons on the southern edge, coarse and fine-grain sandstones for millstones and grindstones in the Wutach valley , clayey loam for the House building and for the production of cooking and eating utensils in the settlement area itself, good construction and firewood in the surrounding forests.

Finds from Gächlingen and a model of the Neolithic settlement are exhibited in the Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen .

coat of arms

Blazon

In red on the right, upright, silver pruning knife with the edge turned outwards with a brown handle and yellow ferrule, on the left, upright, white ploughshare.

The oldest tradition of the coat of arms can be found on a coat of arms disk from 1572, which is in the Museum of All Saints . On this disc, however, the ploughshare and the vine knife are in swapped places. In 1602 the first seal of the community can be found on a mortgage note. With this seal, the vine knife is already on the left (heraldic: right) side. In the centuries that followed, the coat of arms changed only slightly. The ploughshare stands in the middle, while the cutting edge arches over the point. An adjustment of the coat of arms finally led to today's, but historically documented coat of arms.

traffic

Gächlingen is well integrated into the transport network of the canton of Schaffhausen. There are hourly buses to Neunkirch , where there are lean connections to the S-Bahn. The journey time to Schaffhausen is 21 minutes. This shuttle bus runs every half hour during rush hour. In addition, a direct bus runs half an hour via Siblingen to Schaffhausen, although the journey time is 36 minutes longer than via Neunkirch. At rush hour this bus also runs every half hour, but you have to change to a connecting bus from Beggingen in Siblingen .

The next train station is in Neunkirch on the Hochrheinbahn ( Basel –Schaffhausen– Singen (Hohentwiel) ), which is now operated by Deutsche Bahn .

Gächlingen lies between the highways Waldshut –Schaffhausen (German name B 34 ) and (border near Oberwiesen) - Schleitheim –Schaffhausen, with a distance of approx. 3 km in both directions. There are also local connections to Siblingen and Oberhallau in the east-west direction.

The closest airport is Zurich Airport , around 45 km south of Gächlingen. Zurich Airport can also be reached quickly with the SBB S 24 from Schaffhausen.
