Bremsi coat of arms

Brümsi (also: Brymsi ) is the name of a Swiss aristocratic and patrician family from the city of Schaffhausen in the canton of the same name .

history

The Brümsi are said to have migrated from Maienfeld in the canton of Graubünden to Schaffhausen in the 11th century . Eberhardus Brümsi is mentioned as the earliest representative in 1239. In 1251 a Hainricus and 1258 a Konrad appeared as witnesses. The family rose to the lower nobility and also acquired the knighthood.

The family split into four tribes:

  • Brümsi (also called "the Morharten"),
  • (Brümsi) Am Stad (named after the place of residence on the Rhine)
  • (Brümsi) Im Thurn
  • Brummsee , noble family in Prussia

After the Brümsi had acquired Herblingen village and castle in 1537 , the Brümsi von Herblingen family called themselves . After emigrating from Schaffhausen around 1515-25, the male family died out with the death of Hans Brümsi in 1551.

With its residence on the Rhine, the branch Am Stad held the shipping rights in Schaffhausen as inheritance from the Allerheiligen monastery . They had to sell this to the city in 1302.

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a six-pointed silver star on a black background on the left and a black star on a silver background on the right. The village of Herdwangen in southern Germany has the same coat of arms as the Brümsi, as the family owned the bailiwick of this village around 1400.
