The New London County is a county in the US state of Connecticut . At the 2010 census , the county had 274,055 people and a population density of 158.9 people per square kilometer. The traditional county seat is New London , but in Connecticut all local administrative functions have been transferred to the communities.
The county's largest city is Groton , just outside Norwich .
geography
The County is located in southeastern Connecticut between the mouth of the Connecticut River in Long Iceland Sound to the west and the border with Rhode Iceland in the east. New London County covers an area of 1999 square kilometers, of which 274 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following neighboring counties:

history
New London County was one of Connecticut's four founding counties in 1666.
In 1667 the Town of Preston, in 1697 the Quinebaug River Valley, in 1699 the Town of Colchester and in 1700 the Town of Lebanon added to the previous area of New London County.
In 1708 the Town of Colchester was spun off from the county and added to Hartford County, but in 1783 it was again incorporated into New London County.
In 1881, the final maritime border between the states of New York and Connecticut in Long Island Sound was established.

The racial the population was composed of 82.2 percent white, 5.8 percent African American, 0.9 percent Native American, 4.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 3.7 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 8.5 percent of the population.
Statistically, 2.43 people lived in the 106,590 households.
21.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 64.1 percent were between 18 and 64 and 14.2 percent were 65 years or older. 50.1 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 65,419 USD . The per capita income was $ 32,888. 7.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
