Groton is a town in New London County in the south of the US -amerikanischen State of Connecticut . As of the 2010 census date, Groton had a population of 10,389.

Groton's main employer is Electric Boat , a General Dynamics shipyard that mainly builds submarines for the US Navy . So far, u. a. the USS Nautilus (SSN-571) (the first nuclear powered submarine), the later sunken USS Scorpion (SSN-589) and several Ohio , Los Angeles , Seawolf and Virginia class boats .
