During the First World War , Electric Boat manufactured 85 submarines and, through its subsidiary, Submarine chasers . After the First World War, Electric Boat did not receive any more orders from the US Navy until 1934, during the Second World War the company again built 74 submarines, 118 Liberty Ships and almost 400 PT speedboats for the Navy.

In 1952 the company took on the name General Dynamics Corporation , EB remained as a branch responsible for submarine construction.

During the Cold War, Electric Boat played a leading role in the production of nuclear submarines , with the first nuclear submarine, the USS Nautilus (SSN-571) launched there in 1954. The first submarine equipped with nuclear missiles , the USS George Washington (SSBN-598), was also built by Electric Boat.

From 1972, all orders for the Ohio-class missile boats went to Electric Boat, and in the following years many of the hunting submarine orders went to the Los Angeles , Virginia and Seawolf classes .
