Irma Urteaga

Irma Urteaga (born March 7, 1929 in San Nicolás de los Arroyos ) is an Argentine composer and pianist .

Life

Urteaga studied piano with María Lucrecia Madariaga de Gilardi, Josefa Hernandorena and Jorge Fanelli at the Conservatory of Buenos Aires, composition with Roberto Caamaño and Valdo Sciammarella , instrumentation with Roberto García Morillo and music history with Carlos Sufern and Alicia Terzian . In 1959 she received the title of professor for piano and in 1971 the gold medal in composition. She received training in choral and orchestral conducting from Jacobo Ficher , Enrico Sivieri , Jorge Fontenla and Carlos Malloyer at the Instituto Superior de Arte des Teatro Colón . She also took private lessons from Isaac Weinstein and Roberto Kinsky .

She has taught at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música Carlos López Buchardo and at the Instituto Superior de Arte . At the Teatro Colón she worked as internal maestra and director (1974-77) and director of the opera workshop. For the Fundación Opera del Ecuador she organized the game seasons from 1986 to 1988 in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca.

She was also vice-secretary (1973–1980) and vice-president (1997–2003) of the Asociación Argentina de Compositores and secretary of the Consejo Argentino de la Música (CAMU, 1985–1993) and is vice-president of the Foro Argentino de Compositoras (FADEC). She composed an opera and ballets, orchestral works, chamber music, piano and choral works and songs.
