Antonio Requeni

Antonio Requeni (born September 8, 1930 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine journalist and writer.

Requeni spent the first years of his life in Valencia and began studying at the Escuela Mariano Acosta and the Universidad de La Plata . He broke this off in 1958 and became editor of the newspaper La Prensa for which he worked until 1994. He was also a correspondent for the Radioprograma Hemisferio and wrote for swn Mexican Mundial , the Spanish Papeles de Son Armadans and numerous Argentine newspapers and magazines such as El Hogar , Atlántida , La Nación , the Noticias Gráficas , La Razón , Clarín , Los Andes , La Gaceta and El Liberal . He was then secretary of the Fundación El Libro for ten years and works as a literary critic for La Nación .

In addition, Requeni became known as a poet, essayist, and children's book author. As a journalist, he has received awards from the Asociación de Entidades Periodísticas Argentinas (ADEPA), the Ayuntamiento de Málaga and the Ferrovia dello Stato in Rome. For the collection of poems Camino de canciones (1953) he received a prize from the Sociedad Argentina de Escritores , for Manifestación de Bienes (1965) and the travel diary Los viajes y los días awards from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes .

At the 1980 International Poetry Competition of the Associazione Siciliana per le Lettere e le Arti , he received the prize for best foreign author. In 1984 he was awarded the Grand Prize of Honor of the Fundación Argentina para la Poesía , twice (1984 and 1997) he received the Premio Konex . In 1989 he was named Cavalliere Ufficiale by the Italian government . The Fondo Nacional de las Artes selected him in 1996 among the ten most important living poets in Argentina. In 1998 he became a member of the Academia Argentina de Letras as the successor to Roberto Juarroz . In 2010 he received the Great Prize of Honor from the Argentine Writers' Association.
